Ford Lands Player Of The Month Honour

Published in:

Matthew Ford has sent out a warning to the rest of the field at this week's Les Bordes Tour Championship, declaring that he is in "the form of his life" as he picked up the final Peak Performance Player of the Month award in this year's PGA Europro Tour.

Ford collected the award for September after winning the Brooks Brothers 2008 Classic at the Five Lakes Hotel, Golf, Country Club and Spa in Essex before coming close to recording back-to-back wins at the Ladbrokescasino.com Masters at La Cala - finishing second after a final round 65.

His win at Five Lakes was all the more impressive as he led from the first round in testing weather conditions - holding his nerve to pick up his first win on the Europro Tour.

The Marriott Tudor Park player had already been successful from the front in May when he won the Southern Open in the PGA South Region.

"I won a 72-hole regional event from the front earlier in the year so I knew that I could do it," said Ford.

"Leading from the front is tough in itself as it is difficult to focus on your shots without thinking about being in the lead and the pressure that comes from that."

As the Peak Performance Player of the Month, Ford wins a £1,000 voucher to spend on Peak Performance's golf range at Harrods and a specially embroidered jacket.

He will join the four other winners of the Peak Performance Player of the Month award in an 18-hole play-off with a prize purse of £10,000, taking place at The Players Club, Bristol, tomorrow.

The Maidstone-based player has his targets set on the biggest prize of the year at the Les Bordes Tour Championship which starts on Monday, where £20,000 goes to the winner.

Victory for Ford would see him top the Order of Merit for the year and he reckons he has timed his form just right for the trip to Loire Valley.

"I won the PGA Southern Championship last week so I'm going to France in the form of my life - my aim is to be playing on the European Tour and I feel I'm in good enough form to achieve that."
