Veteran professional George Ryall struck a decisive blow for golf's 'older' generation, which earned him the SkyCaddie PGA Player of the Month award for September.
The Players Club professional edged a high-class field of potential winners in a month that saw outstanding golf across the country as the season reaches its climax.
Ryall, who turned 50 two weeks ago, showed he could mix it with the 'bright young things' by winning the West Region Order of Merit - securing a place in this month's Srixon PGA Play-Offs as well as a spot in next year's BMW PGA Championship.
His success, secured with victory in the final Order of Merit event at Hamptworth, was achieved against the background of a troublesome back that requires constant physio.
Narrowly missing out were fellow regional Order of Merit winners in the Midlands and East - Kettering's Simon Lilly and Chelmsford's Brett Taylor.
Lilly, who looked destined for a second successive runners-up spot, put together back-to-back performances inside 10 days to clinch the title, while Taylor won the final event to top the standings.
Staying in the Midlands, Ian Walley's win in the fifth OOM event of the season would normally have also seen the accolade potentially winging its way as he finished 15-uner-par for the 54 hole event - and then six-under in the five hole play-off.
East Berkshire's Guy Woodman continued his dominance in the Assistants' category with victory in the Crown Golf English PGA Assistants' Championship - his second national title in as many months.
Adopted Irishman Rob Giles returned to his native England and mixed it with big guns at the British Masters - and achieved that rare feat of making the cut against European Tour regulars.
Steve Parry got a mention in despatches for three successes plus runners up spot in the Lancs PGA Championship, while north of the border Greg McBain's form has not gone unnoticed with two wins out three on the Young Professionals Order of Merit, while Lindsay Mann's landed the pro-am and main honours in the World Hickory Championship.
Ryall wins a SkyCaddie 2.5 GPS rangefinder. The Player of the Month award will run until October.
